I Watched Chinese New Year from a Hotel Window

We made it to Bangkok. The last stop of this Southeast Asia trip. And Bangkok, true to form, did not hold back. We stayed right in the heart of Chinatown during Chinese New Year which happened to be the Year of the Horse. My year. I was born in the Year of the Horse. I run a horse farm. This was supposed to be my celebration. Instead, I watched it from a hotel window, wheelchair beside me, while Chris and Cindy went out into the streets with strict instructions to film everything. The city was alive with red lanterns, gold decorations and firecrackers. Chris had arranged a rental wheelchair for me at the hotel, which changed everything. We did the Chao Phraya dinner cruise (40 USD, buffet, entertainment, the Bangkok skyline at night) where three very well-intentioned men lifted me off the boat and nearly delivered me directly into the river. They went shopping because Cindy, now fully transformed into what I can only describe as Southeast Asian chic, had more markets to conquer. Cindy also figured out the Chao Phraya river taxi entirely on her own, orange flag boats at 15 Baht a ride, navigating Bangkok like she had lived there for years. She also tracked down a clinic to remove her stitches after visiting what felt like half the pharmacies in the city. And Chris spent an afternoon visiting every DJI store in Bangkok looking for my drone charger. He did not find it. Five countries. One missing charger. Some stories don't have a tidy ending. But the kindness did not stop. Every curb, every obstacle, every difficult moment in this city, someone appeared and helped. That part never stopped. This is the second to last episode of this Southeast Asia series. Episode 8 is the one I have been working up to telling. And it is bigger than a broken ankle.
