Although Tibetans are often reserved by nature and may rarely say "I love you" to their parents, their love is expressed in other meaningful ways. Respect, gratitude, and seeking their parents' blessings are among the deepest expressions of affection in Tibetan culture. Tenzin Rabgyal, for example, says he has never directly told his mother how much he loves her. Instead, he honors her with unwavering respect. Whenever he is about to begin an important journey, make a major decision, or start something new, he always asks for his mother's blessing. For him, this simple act speaks louder than words. It is one of the many ways Tibetan children express their love and reverence for their parents and elders. Sadly, not every Tibetan has had the opportunity to grow up with their parents. Many are semi-orphans who were sent to India at a young age in search of education and a better future. Some left their families when they were only six years old and, since then, have never had the chance to see their parents again. For many, decades have passed—more than thirty years—without a reunion, making the bond with their parents one built on memories, longing, and hope.
