EP.4 Day out in Tainan (I was followed and harassed) ｜林百货, Furugi 古着店 vintage clothing shop, 蜗牛港

Looking back, if I were to find myself in that situation again, there are quite a few things I would do differently. I really question how I managed to stay so polite the entire time. Why did I answer every question? I should've just screamed, punched him, and called the police! (That said, I was also aware that they might not have been mentally stable, so it could have been dangerous to escalate things. I didn't have anywhere to run, and if I’d done something to anger them... yeah, it could’ve gone badly.) --- Something else I think about is whether wearing something different could have reduced the chance of it happening. Could it have? Maybe. Does that mean it’s my fault? Absolutely not! It's never the victim's fault. Here I am reflecting so deeply on the situation, and I can bet they haven’t given it another thought. Maybe they’re only reflecting on how to get away with it better next time. Honestly, I still feel pretty lucky that nothing worse happened—and I even met a new friend because of it. But it was traumatizing. Because of this experience, I’d be a lot less likely to go back to that place. --- I tried to enjoy the rest of my time there and put on a happy front. But whether it was my mood or just bad luck, nothing seemed to go my way. My nails (which turned out really well, in the end) took an extremely long time. I didn’t get to see much of what I wanted to. My dinner experience was awful. And to make matters worse, I was followed again that same night. (While walking back to my hotel, I decided to get some ice cream to cheer myself up. That decision unfortunately caught someone’s attention, and they decided to follow me. They asked me a bunch of stupid questions. But by that point, I was done. I got angry, yelled at them, and ran away). --- From this experience, all I can say is: that we learn from everything, good or bad—they’re just life experiences. Always remember to look after yourself, whether you’re a guy or a girl, especially if you’re traveling alone. Stay positive and true to yourself. Don’t let people who aren’t worth it define you or your worth. Don’t worry about what others think. Just keep being you. That’s what I’ll always tell myself. Lastly, I want to say thank you to the mom and daughter I ate with afterward. It was so nice to chat with someone after that experience.
