I climbed Mount Batur on the Indonesian island of Bali. This is Bali vlog #3. This is the third installment of the Ubud leg of a 7-day, 5-night trip, spending time in Ubud, rich in tradition, art, and nature, and Seminyak, known for its beaches and shopping. Don't you feel like your body and the place start to become accustomed to it around the third day of travel? Basically, you get used to it. The restlessness from the second day fades, and you start to get used to the food, water, air, and comfort of the bed, and you can enjoy the place 100%. Well, that was Day 3. My Klook Mount Batur Sunrise Tour, which I'd already booked, was coming to pick me up in the afternoon, so I spent the morning relaxing in Ubud town for some sightseeing. I browsed through all the souvenirs at Ubud Market (most were quite pricey; I haven't compared them elsewhere, so I don't know the exact price), haggled over the price of a wooden spatula I wanted (shopping is a battle), and then wandered around. For lunch, I went to "Ibu oka," recommended by Yoshimoto Banana in Yuzan's Ubud travelogue in TRANSIT magazine, which I mentioned in the description section of #1. Babi guling sounds unfamiliar, but it's a set meal of various parts of a whole roasted pig, apparently eaten during Hindu Balinese ceremonies and celebrations. I wondered whether it was okay to have this for lunch while sightseeing, but it was so delicious... My husband and I both love spicy food, so we had a ton of sambal (a chili condiment) poured over our meal, even though we were heading to the mountains afterwards. In the afternoon, the female driver arranged by Klook picked us up and we headed to Mount Batur! Not only was she fluent in English, but she was also a great driver. I'm grateful. I don't think there are many people hiking in Bali. Indonesia is made up of countless islands, and many of the central mountains are over 3,000 meters high. While serious mountain climbers may come to hike, they don't usually climb as an extension of regular sightseeing. But! Mount Batur is a casual way to enjoy hiking on the island. As far as I know, hiking in Bali requires a guide to accompany you, so just be careful. It's also a good way to spend money locally.
