Destruction of the Temple: Four years later, in 70 AD, Roman legions under Titus reconquered and destroyed much of Jerusalem, including the Second Temple, taking valuable treasures and resources. Funding of the Colosseum: This booty, along with taxes and the seizure of public lands, generated great wealth that Emperor Vespasian used to fund an ambitious construction program, which included the start of the Colosseum.
