Oil palms are industrial crops used as raw materials for cooking oil, industrial oil, and fuel. Oil palms play an important role in the oil industry, replacing coconuts as a raw material. Indonesia is the world's largest palm oil producer. In Indonesia, palm oil is distributed in Aceh, the east coast of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. There are several oil palm species: E. guineensis Jacq., E. oleifera, and E. odora. Oil palm varieties or types are classified based on two characteristics: endocarp thickness and fruit color. Based on the thickness of the endocarp, oil palms are classified into three varieties: Dura, Pisifera, and Tenera. Based on the color of the fruit, oil palms are classified into three varieties: Nigrescens, Virescens, and Albescens. Generally, oil palms consist of several parts: roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit. The part of the oil palm that is processed into oil is the fruit. As the original origin of oil palm plantations, the processing methods for producing crude palm oil (CPO) and cooking oil are very simple, and the resulting yields are likely to have a high acid content.
