Preliminary arguments: 1) In some passages, the Bible says that the church will be spared "from" the wrath to come 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:10 2) Believers will not go through the Tribulation 2 for you yourselves know perfectly well that the Day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. 4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that that Day should overtake you like a thief; 1 Thessalonians 5:2,4 3) The Lord said he would keep the church in Philadelphia from the testing of those days 10 Because you have kept the word of my perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing which will come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Rev 3:10 4) At the rapture, we will find Jesus in the air, but when he returns, his feet will touch the ground. 4 On that day, his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. The Mount of Olives will split in two, toward the east and toward the west, and a very large valley will form; half of the mountain will move toward the north and half toward the south. Zech 14:4 Post-arguments: All these pre-tribulation texts are interpretative; none of them state that Jesus will come in two stages. The "Pre" theory was only developed in the 19th century; before that, no one thought of Jesus' return in two stages. God did not always protect his servants from tribulation. 1) There will be saints during the Tribulation Revelation 13:7 and 20:9 2) The elect will be gathered after the tribulation 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven. Then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a great trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. Matthew 24:29-31 3) The resurrection of the dead will take place at the last trumpet, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
