Itzacalodi - “Hollow Function” (Unreleased)

Backstory: “Hollow Function" is Itzacalodi's most emotional alt-rock release, born from a period of overwhelming isolation and depression that nearly broke him mentally. Originally forgotten and left off an extended version of Broken Signals, the song resurfaced during one of the darkest chapters of his life. Inspired by the guitar work of Select All and built around a haunting 90 BPM C major instrumental, the track became a raw reflection of feeling invisible, unwanted, and disconnected from the world. During a private studio session with Lotor, Itzacalodi recorded much of the song in near darkness, pouring genuine emotion into every line. By the time he reached the chorus, the pain became impossible to contain, leading to an intensely emotional vocal performance that required Lodi to actually “yell” the lyrics instead of singing them traditionally, which required Lotor to use heavy a very special vocal chain to negate the slight “earrape” while retaining its sincerity. More than a song, Hollow Function documents a battle with hopelessness and the search for a reason to keep going. Its story ultimately became one of survival, carrying a message that Itzacalodi himself struggled to believe at the time: no matter how empty life may feel, you are enough. This song’s lead guitar is a direct inspiration taken from what a slowed and pitched down version of “Money” by The Drums would sound like. You’re welcome :) Lately me and my engineer lotor.music have been experimenting with layering drum sounds and whatnot during mixing sessions and I will say, this song’s drum snare is one of the rawest, hardest, punchiest snare sounds this dude has mixed. It’s funny how instantly a random guitar riff that pops up in your head can prompt you to ask your engineer to help turn into something like this in literally a few minutes. Realistically speaking, my production process is rather speedy which means literally anything you would take time doing in an actual studio is what would take way less of a time when I’m in control💯🔥 Wanna see this on the big platforms as well?
