Abigail Person: A brief history of time (in the cerebellum)

The cerebellar granule layer’s unusual architecture has inspired theorists for decades. The early theories of Marr and Albus proposing that the layer performs pattern separation have remained inspiring and proved a useful framework for evaluating data and new hypotheses that extend pattern separation into the time domain. Here I will discuss work from my lab using both anatomical and physiological data to explore ways in which the cerebellar granule layer may support temporally complex movements. Abby Person received her PhD from the University of Washington, where she was mentored by David Perkel. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing (mentored by Minmin Luo), and then returned to the US and completed a fellowship in the laboratory of Indira Raman at Northwestern University. She was a Sloan Foundation Fellow, and a Mcknight Scholar. She is now Professor of Neuroscience at the Univ. of Colorado.
