1984 WORLD RECORD-Steve Jones (U.K.) @ Chicago Marathon

At the1984 Chicago Marathon ("America's Marathon") Steve Jones of the United Kingdom ( Wales ) ran a 2:08:06 which broke the previous world record of Alberto Salazar who did a 2:08:13 at the 1981 New York City Marathon. Carlos Lopes, the second-place finisher in this 1984 Chicago Marathon, broke Steve Jones record at the Rotterdam Marathon in the Netherlands on April 20,1985 with a 2:07:12.
