Fyrkat was built in the year 980 under King Harald Bluetooth and, together with the four other Danish ringforts – Aggersborg, Borgring, Nonnebakken and Trelleborg – is on UNESCO’s list of inalienable world heritage. None of the original ringforts exist today, but on Fyrkat an earthen rampart marks where the ringfort surrounded the original 16 longhouses. Immediately outside the rampart, one of the castle’s longhouses has been reconstructed. Close to the castle itself is Stormandens Gård. It consists of nine reconstructed houses, which together form a rich Viking farm, as we know it from the time of Harald Bluetooth.
