Didier Boyet Shihan, 55 years in aikido

Born on September 4, 1946, in Lyon, France, Didier Boyet is a highly distinguished martial artist who holds the ranks of 7th dan in Aikido and 6th dan in Iaido. Boyet began his journey in Aikido in 1971 under the supervision of Gérald Servat, heavily engaging in seminars conducted by Nobuyoshi Tamura Shihan. A defining moment in his martial arts education occurred in the early 1970s when he encountered Kazuo Chiba Shihan. Captivated by Chiba Sensei's dynamic and raw style, Boyet dedicated himself to studying under him, regularly traveling to seminars across France and Great Britain. Around the same time, he was introduced to Iaido. In October 1977, Boyet relocated to Japan to deepen his practice. Sponsored by Chiba Sensei, he trained daily at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo under Ueshiba Kisshomaru Doshu and later Ueshiba Moriteru Doshu, alongside other prominent Shihans. Concurrently, he studied Muso Shinden Ryū Iaido under Takeshi Mitsuzuka Sensei at the San Shin Kai dojo. Boyet spent nearly forty years in Japan, deeply embedded in the local martial arts community and participating in Chiba Sensei's private study groups. He achieved his 1st dan in Aikido in 1976, reached 6th dan in Iaido by 1986, and was awarded his 7th dan in Aikido in 2016. Named a Shihan for the Birankai group in 2007, Boyet now resides in Paris, continuing to preserve and pass on his martial arts legacy by teaching international seminars worldwide.
