Mikrobiom – wie die Bakterien im Darm über unsere Gesundheit entscheiden | Einstein | SRF Wissen
The microorganisms, such as bacteria, in our gut are crucial for our health. But they also influence allergies, diabetes, obesity, and depression. "Einstein" dares to experiment on himself: Can the intestinal flora be improved in just a few weeks with the right diet? 🔔 Subscribe to SRF Einstein now on YouTube 👉 https://www.youtube.com/srfwissen?sub... It used to be believed that bacteria in the gut made us sick.🤢 Today, research knows that the so-called microbiome promotes our health. And this even before birth! The mother's intestinal bacteria affect the child via the umbilical cord, thus influencing the child's immune system. That's why what mothers eat during pregnancy is crucial. The nutrition of young children is also particularly important, because this is when the intestinal flora develops. The intestinal flora ensures our health but also influences obesity and diseases such as diabetes and depression. That's why we should pay special attention to our diet. With a varied diet, we can optimally promote and nurture our gut bacteria. Microbiome researcher Bettina Wöllnerhansen shows what a varied diet can look like in everyday life. Researchers have also discovered that our society's gut bacteria are becoming increasingly impoverished. Our diet, which is too fat, too high in protein, and not diverse enough, is to blame. The researchers now want to find out whether the microbiome of indigenous peoples can help restore civilized society to health. "Einstein" presenter Kathrin Hönegger is also conducting a self-experiment. She has been eating a gluten-free and vegetarian diet for 20 years because she suffers from celiac disease (wheat intolerance). A study shows that her microbiome is rather one-sided. She wants to change this with a change in diet. And indeed: After just a few weeks, her gut flora has already improved dramatically. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ◾ Director: Thorsten Stecher ◾ Editors: Martina Mieth, Andrea Fischli ◾ Presenter: Kathrin Hönegger ________________________ This is SRF Einstein: We tell stories that inform, educate, and entertain.
