Tenshin-ryu Hyōhō preserves the tradition of martial arts practiced by high-ranking samurai during the Edo period. [An ancient martial art with a tradition of approximately 400 years] Tenshin-ryu Hyōhō is an ancient martial art created during the Kan'ei era by Master Tokizawa Yahei. The founder studied Shinkage-ryu under Yagyū Munenori, the sword instructor to the Tokugawa shogunate. He served alongside Munenori, acting as a bodyguard and performing various duties, and is said to have played an important role in the escort of the Korean diplomatic mission. After being granted permission to serve, he followed Munenori's instructions, organizing the more than 200 techniques Munenori had developed and creating his own unique style of martial arts, which he named Tenshin-ryu.
