Organise 2020: The state of the unions and the challenges we face
Union membership has grown by over 200,00 over the last three years. But less than a quarter of all workers are in a union and there are over 17 million non-members in the private sector. Added to this unions have an ageing membership and activist base. This session draws attention to these key strategic challenges and discusses what unions can do to address them. Speakers: Carl Roper (national education and organising manager, TUC), Sarah Woolley (general secretary, BFAWU), Mike Clancy (general secretary, Prospect), Roger McKenzie (assistant general secretary, Unison)
