What would happen if you have this type of oil catch can and drive in winter? Here is the answer! Check the description as well. If you cannot understand my accent, subtitles are included. The oil catch can tested here is called KKMoon. Very similar to the Mishimoto baffled oil catch can (amazon UK): https://amzn.to/3hK0uYn or ebay: https://ebay.us/rDu7rX and you can buy it on Amazon UK: https://amzn.to/37BZXmm or ebay: https://ebay.us/3eD5Eg My test was to see what will happen if I have this type of oil catch can (very fine bronze filter, 50microns) and the outside temperature was below 0C (32F), i.e. driving in winter. I dipped the bronze filter in water and made sure that there is no pooled water left in the bronze filter, only water molecules in the holes of the filter. I put the oil catch can in the freezer (-16C or 3.2F) for ~1.5 hours. I used a syringe with a silicone hose to see if air can still pass through the bronze filter. The end result is that air or the oil vapour will not be able to pass and will create an increased crankcase pressure due to the ice in in-between the bronze holes in the oil catch can. One could certainly argue that the warm/hot crankcase gasses will unblock the bronze filter and everything will be ok... Nevertheless, that will take certain amount of time, during which the crankcase gasses have nowhere to go... This type of oil catch can has no pressure relief valve, so one cannot be certain which will give first, the ice in-between the holes in the bronze filter or the seals in the engine... I personally will not be using this type of oil catch can during winter months. Try this on your own oil catch can and see what happens. 00:00 - Introduction 00:52 - Overview of the KKMoon oil catch can (similar to Mishimoto baffled oil catch can) 01:35 - The actual oil catch can bronze filter 02:10 - Dipping the bronze oil catch can filter in water 02:49 - Test to see if air can pass through the oil catch can with a syringe 04:21 - Oil Catch Can is in the freezer 04:23 - Test if the oil catch can out of the freezer can let air through (with a syringe) 05:04 - De-frosted oil catch can passes air through (or oil vapour) 07:41 - Final words on driving with this type of oil catch can in winter #OilCatchCan #Winter #Test Disclaimer: Use the information provided in this video at Your Own Risk.
