My dear friends,Ladies and gentlemen, A huge thanks from both of us for appreciating Sujata's harmonica song posted just 24 hours back & blessing her abundantly. Now Hold onto your hats for a harmonica duet that’s more like a Bollywood comedy than a polished concert! It’s me,Ashutosh and my better half,Sujata, taking on Dil Tadap Tadap Ke from Madhumati at the Indore MPCG harmonica meet last month. Think of us as a husband-wife team trying to run a *coalition government*,especially formed between two fiercely opposing parties with both parties yelling different tunes, and one wrong statement,one wrong note could topple the whole government, could send the whole song into a tailspin! Now, playing & recording in a studio or outdoor locations is a picnic. Mess up? No problem! Retake, add some reverb, maybe a dash of echo, and you’re golden. But live? In front of India’s harmonica bigwigs? That’s like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle! One missed beat, a harmonica gone detune, a reed frozen by the cold, or a microphone throwing a tantrum, and—poof!—your song’s a kaput. Oh, and just when you think it can't get wilder,BOOM! A light bulb exploding overhead like a Diwali Anaar firework,stealing the show with spraying sparks. The hall was full to the capacity with harmonicats from all over the country,with a front row stacked with legends: Shri Nandu Belvalkar sir, the Bhishma Pitamaha of Indian harmonica; Shri Swaroop Mitra, the country’s harmonica rockstar; the chief guest-IPS Mr. Rajesh Tripathi, DCP Crime, Indore,(a sangeet Visharad too); and IAS Mr. Shriman Shukla, District Magistrate,a harmonica player himself; staring at us like judges on a n Indian Idol show. Add to that, we were slotted right after five or six mind-blowing acts, including Swaroop sir’s masterpiece. You'd think we'd be shaking in our boots under pressure,like pilots during a take-off? After having a 40 odd year's experience of managing life threatening surgical & obstetric emergencies we are no rookies! We swaggered on stage like Gabbar Singh in Sholay, chest puffed out, sneering, अरी ओ सांबा,कितने आदमी है? The audience? Helpless hostages, stuck in their seats, shaking,probably praying we wouldn’t butcher the classic! Watch the chaos unfold: Sujata, my musical drill sergeant, shoots me death glares, trying to lasso my wild rhythm like I’m a runaway buffalo occasionally shaking her head like: ये आदमी कब सुधारेगा!*(and Asrani in me carelessly retorting through a casual wink: *अबतक तुम नही सुधरे तो हम क्या सुधरेंगे! Then her harmonica decides to throw a hissy fit, and Swaroop sir, the harmonica surgeon, dives in to fix it,in vain,as the time ran out. We fumble a few lines—oops, brain freeze!—and just when you think it can’t get crazier, BAM! A light bulb pops overhead, stealing the spotlight like a drama queen. But do we panic? Nah! We’re too busy channeling our inner Asrani,the jailor,like: आधे इधर,आधे उधर,बचे हुवे ताली बजाओ! (All survived,no casualties thankfully!) And the cherry on top? When we finally limped to the finish line, who storms the stage? But Mr. Patanjali Jha, harmonica wizard and national powerlifting champ from Bhilai, M.P; clapping for us like we just rocked the stadium! Us? The duo who turned a romantic duet into a comedy of errors? Bless his heart! That is the love,affection & bonding in our harmonica world community,that we are so proud of!
