EXTREME GROCERY BUDGET CHALLENGE Thanksgiving Edition 2021 | Frugal Holiday Meal for 8!
Thanksgiving for 8 people for $8! In today’s video, I am showing you how you can make a DELICIOUS Thanksgiving meal for your family with ONLY $8! The only way this EXTREME budget of $8 was possible is through the blessing of rebates available to everyone on Ibotta. The total amount in rebates (for FREE items) came to: $25.66! However— you can still have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving dinner for under $30 without a single rebate, coupon, or discount price. Below I have listed all the details of my shopping trip, substitutions you can make to still have the menu I’ve shared, and how to spend less than $30 for 8 people if you don’t use ibotta. Ibotta referral: https://ibotta.onelink.me/iUfE/8cc13c... *Please consider using this Ibotta if you have a computer of phone. You can receive the money back in cash deposited to your bank account, PayPal, or in gift card form! All you need to do is reach $20 in your ibotta account before transferring the rebate cash you’ve earned. Using Ibotta, you can get a ton of FREE items for your thanksgiving dinner! Make sure to download the app if you don’t have an account already— and shop at your local Walmart for all of the amazing deals available RIGHT NOW before the deals go away! Here is what I spent: $8.72 if you are able to find all of the available rebates in your local Walmart! I was unable to get the Great Value cranberry sauce, so I purchased the Ocean Spray for $1.50. And the Turkey will be 100% FREE if you find one for $15. (The one I picked up was $17.33 originally— after rebate, that brings my Turkey cost to $2.33) Cost breakdown: Without rebates I would not have purchased the Coke, gravy packet, or jiffy mix. Additionally, I would have purchased Great Value brand cream of mushroom soup for $.50 instead of Campbell’s for $.98, I would have purchased a second can of green beans for $.50 instead of the frozen beans for $1. This would have made my total cost $31.65 To save even more, you could have buttered green beans with salt and pepper instead of green bean casserole (saves you additional $2.46) This means you can have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving dinner for under $30 without a single rebate, coupon, or discount price. $2.33 Turkey ($17.33 before $15 rebate) —technically the rebate is for whole turkeys, not just Turkey breast. I chose the breast instead of buying one of the $15 whole turkeys. But the whole turkeys are actually 1/2 the cost! $0 Gravy (after $1.12 rebate) -$.02 Stuffing ($.80 before the $.82 rebate) $.50 Green beans ($1.50 before rebate) $0 cream of mushroom -$.32 crispy onions ($1.96 before $2.28 rebate) -$.10 mashed potato packet (after $1.88 rebate) $.70 Sweet potatoes (1.3 lbs) $.77 russet potatoes (1 lb) $1.50 Cranberry sauce (FREE Great Value with rebate) $.25 yeast packet ($.77 for 3pk) $2.24 heavy cream $.88 Margarine (price for 4 sticks, but I only used 2 sticks— or 1 cup— in this entire meal) $3.49 Pumpkin pie $0 coke 2liter ($1.98 before $0 jiffy mix (after $.52 rebate) Additional ingredients used: Salt & pepper 1 TBS Cajun seasoning (you can use just salt and pepper instead or create your own seasoning blend!) Cinnamon (you can omit) 2 eggs (if you don’t have eggs, you can make French loaf bread instead of rolls. Recipe here: • Breakfast Meal Prep + French Bread & Ranch... (Less than) 1/2 cup brown sugar (if you don’t have brown sugar, you can omit OR make plain mashed sweet potatoes) 3 TBS white sugar (this is needed to help the yeast in the bread) 1 & 1/2 TBS powdered sugar (the whipped cream will still work without sugar— it just won’t be sweet) 3 & 1/2 cups of flour (for dinner rolls & gravy— if you don’t have flour, you can use the jiffy mix to make bread for dinner. And you can use the gravy packet or pouch instead of making homemade gravy with the flour) 2 tbs oil (for the dinner rolls— but you can use melted butter/margarine from the purchased groceries listed above) More ideas: Chicken breast is a delicious alternative to Turkey that is available in smaller quantities than average turkeys & Turkey breast. Consider roasting a whole chicken for $5 or separate pieces/leg quarters. Walmart often has 5 lb bags of leg quarters for $5! If you missed seeing a specific menu item on the table in this video, you can substitute! For example, Kraft macaroni and cheese is $.94 at Walmart and ibotta has $.35 rebate back on each box, making brand name only $.59/box.
