More than a meme: A Defence of Dawson Leary
Poor Dawson Leary. For years, he’s been written off as “the crying guy from the meme” or the whiniest teen in TV history. But was Dawson really that bad… or has the internet been too harsh on him? In this video, I’m making an unapologetic case in defence of Dawson Leary from Dawson’s Creek. Yes, he could be frustrating, self-absorbed, and overly earnest—but he was also one of the rare teenage boys on TV allowed to be vulnerable, emotional, and messy. And that deserves a second look. We’ll break down: ✨ Why Dawson’s reputation online doesn’t tell the full story ✨ How the show challenged him instead of rewarding his flaws ✨ Why teen boys deserve space to be emotional without ridicule ✨ How Dawson actually grew up by the end of the series ✨ And why James Van Der Beek deserves way more credit than he gets This isn’t about pretending Dawson was perfect—he wasn’t. But maybe, just maybe, he deserves more than being reduced to a meme. 💬 What do you think? Was Dawson unfairly maligned, or do you think he earned his bad reputation? Let me know in the comments—I love hearing your thoughts.
