Jabiru 3300 Gen 3 Rebuild “With the Lot” – Forged Pistons & Test Cell

Steve’s Jabiru 3300 Gen 3 – Full Rebuild, Forged Pistons & Test Cell Run In this video we take a look at Steve’s Jabiru 3300 Gen 3 after a complete ground-up rebuild and engineering upgrade here at Rotec Aerosport. This engine wasn’t just overhauled – it was improved. The goal was long-term reliability, smoother operation, and addressing known weaknesses rather than simply returning the engine to factory spec. Work carried out includes: • Complete engine overhaul and detailed machining • Mahle forged pistons with moly rings • Valve relief machining and upgraded wire clips • Mk2 throttle body upgrade • Gen 4 oil pump adapted to Gen 3 engine • AFR kit with welded bung for accurate mixture monitoring • Alternator conversion and starter overhaul • New braided oil cooler lines and EFI-rated fittings • Hall-effect electronic tachometer system • Engine mount cushion replacement • Full test cell run and validation The engine ran exceptionally well on the test cell, requiring only a minor idle adjustment before settling in cleanly. The result is a strong, smooth-running Jabiru 3300 that is, in our view, well ahead of a stock new Gen 4 engine. If you’re running or rebuilding a Jabiru and want to do it once, properly, this video shows what’s involved.
