However, these sons became corrupt, accepting bribes and making decisions. The elders of the people then asked Samuel, “Samuel is old and his sons are not like you, so appoint a king for us.” This situation is seen as a stark challenge to the Korean church today. The Korean church, which once enjoyed revival, is now too old, and our next generation is gradually leaving the church. It is clear that the day when the churches will be empty and closed is not far off. What should we do now? The people seek to establish their own kings and enforce their own will. But God prepares a king who foreshadows Jesus, the King of kings. The king the people sought was Saul, but the king God appointed was David. Let us move forward in faith, with hope in God's will, who always prepares the best path for us.
