Oversight visit on Correctional Facilities in Gauteng

The Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services conducted oversight visits to several correctional centres in the Gauteng area. Committee Chairperson Mr Kgomotso Ramolobeng said the sites that they visited have were carefully identified to ensure proper oversight of the Department of Correctional Services. The oversight included site visits to, among others, the Emthonjeni Juvenile Correctional Centre(Baviaanspoort), Leeuwkop Correctional Centre, Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre (Pretoria) Female, C Max, UNISA Hub, Modderbee Correctional Centre and the Johannesburg Correctional Centre. “The main purpose of the visit was to inspect conditions of incarceration, the treatment and service provided to inmates, and the conditions of employment for officials.” said Ms Ramolobeng.
