Time: 15.45 Temperature: 27 °C / 80 °F Bastei is a sandstone cliff with an observation deck on the right bank of the Elbe River, 30 km southeast of Dresden between the resort of Rathen and the town of Wehlen. Part of a nature park that includes both Saxon Switzerland (in Germany) and Bohemian Switzerland (in the Czech Republic). The Bastei cliffs rise 194 meters above the Elbe. A popular place for rock climbing. The main attraction is the unique Bastei Bridge (German: Basteibrücke). Built in 1824, in 1851 it was replaced by a modern one made of sandstone. Bastei is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Saxon Switzerland. The closest place to Bastei can be reached by train from Dresden - to the stop Kurort Rathen.
