Ugly - Live at Green Man 2024
00:11 Samphedoo (in the distance at first as I walk towards the stage) 05:24 Sha 09:22 Wasteland 14:00 Carried Away (debut performance) 18:29 Nat Kora It feels appropriate to be walking towards the stage as Ugly are singing "'round the bend, 'round the corner" and there is certainly nothing like a taste of the atmosphere of a Festival on a Saturday night. I saw 17 acts on Saturday at Green Man, and 47 overall - I was running around trying to see everyone, which was a little exhausting but it was all very remarkable and exciting to me and I just wanted to soak it all up (though, strangely soaking it was not, the sun was smiling at us, literally - the sun really does look like that in South Wales). I was looking forward to Ugly but I did not watch all of their set as I wanted to catch some of Osees before I watched Big Thief, the recording of the latter is on my channel. There is a small epilogue as I am walking away from Ugly, I kept this in the bootleg so you too can abstractly taste the atmosphere. There is a video of "The Wheel" at Green Man elsewhere on YouTube which ended their set after I wandered away here: • Ugly @ Green Man - 17 Aug 2024 - The Wheel Ugly were supposed to be playing in Headrow House, the location of my previous upload, in October 2022 at a free 5-act event but as I entered the venue there was an A4 paper saying they could no longer make it - by the end of the night there were only three people watching, and I felt bad for the genuinely decent Canadian dream-pop band (Tallies) who'd travelled across the Atlantic to an empty room, although it did effectively create a (presumed) "Lynchian" atmosphere (rest in ambiguously disconcerting peace Mr. Lynch, sorry I've never seen any of your films). Anyway, I'm glad I finally saw Ugly 22 months later, these new songs are fantastic, I particularly love Wasteland and Carried Away, the latter of which is the first ever performance, and none of the new songs are available on the Interweb seemingly which makes this very similar to the video on my channel which now holds 7484 views, I'm not expecting a repeat of that (in less than 4 weeks no less), though Charlie Wayne of BCNR did of course used to be in Ugly. BCNR have now announced "Forever Howlong" which I am extremely excited about, and which I have nearly completely spoiled for lots of people, sorry.... I wasn't expecting to become something of a (minor) music nerd "influencer" so quickly, it is honestly a little overwhelming. I hope the artists I record don't mind these bootlegs, though I'm glad I have captured these performances and I enjoy creating these videos, and just look at my "graphic design is my passion" 'masterpiece' that is the cover!
