The necessary parts of fasting are separate from its etiquette. The light of remembrance of Allah is unique, and its etiquette is unique. A person who possesses spiritual knowledge lives within the circle of etiquette. 🌿 Etiquette is Refinement in Sufism Sufism is not a crude path. It is not lived by shouting, yelling, or showing off. There is etiquette when walking on the road. There is etiquette when eating. There is etiquette even when drinking tea in a group. You don't make noise while drinking tea. You don't tap the spoon against the cup. You wait. You are patient so that the one serving you sees it. Because etiquette is patience. Etiquette is refinement. Etiquette is the withdrawal of the ego. 🌿 Etiquette Begins at Home If there is no etiquette inside the home, etiquette outside is mere show. You don't yell at your spouse outside. You don't scold your child in front of people. You measure your tongue. You don't frown. Because the child takes you as a role model. Your manners become their character. A Sufi is first and foremost well-mannered at home. 🌿 Manners in the Presence of Elders This path has existed since Adam. Many great ones have walked this path. A student who arrived yesterday doesn't act like, "I know everything." He sits. He observes. He listens. He learns. Manners are about not forgetting one's discipleship. From taking three sips of water, to sitting at the table, to talking to one's spouse, to interacting with children, manners will prevail in every aspect of life. One who lacks manners thinks they are rising, but they fall. Manners keep a person standing.
