Let’s start off by talking about Matsuri by Fujii Kaze! It’s actually my favorite song of his ever since I dipped myself into J-pop culture last year. With the LOVE ALL SERVE ALL album having all bangers that I bop my head to the entire way through, LOVE ALL SERVE ALL also features Matsuri, a track which… if you search up the English translation of the lyrics, is actually quite comedic. Still, Matsuri has such an amazing instrumental (actually j-pop tracks all have insane instrumentals), and with the placement of the ‘Matsuri’ motifs that can be used as samples, Matsuri became the main instrumental track for this mashup. (Note: ‘Matsuri’ means festival—to which in the pre-chorus, Hana-Matsuri is Spring Festival, Natsu-Matsuri is Summer Festival, Aki-Matsuri is Fall Festival, and Fuyu-Yasumi is Winter Break.) Next up is Chicago by Michael Jackson, from the posthumous album XSCAPE! I’d admit, I only got to know this song from the meme animation Birds For Some Reason by Avocado Animations. I mean, I’m sure a good batch of people also got to know this through Birds For Some Reason—absolute comedy LOL- With that in mind, I traced back to the song used for Birds For Some Reason and found out that it’s Chicago by MJ (Michael Jackson), a song that he recorded back in the 1980s yet never utilized in an actual album nor released until his passing. So, the posthumous album XSCAPE finally featured Chicago, and that’s how through Birds For Some Reason it eventually reached my fyp. But dang, Michael popped off on Chicago! So glad it came out eventually. Now, Euphoria by Kendrick Lamar—do I even have to say? Best diss track of the Kendrick vs Drake beef. BEST DISS TRACK IS EUPHORIA YEP I SAID IT The flow in Euphoria bro. Even the relatively serene intro before Kendrick Lamar crashes with beat change is amazing. Every line, every verse, it’s definitely aggressive, yet also playful and petty in a catchy and enjoyable manner. Truly Kendrick performance. Euphoria is the best diss track of the beef (though meet the grahams is the most destructive one). With its flows also matching Matsuri in some way, I chose Euphoria as the Kendrick Lamar track this time! :D Further down we have Human Nature from Thriller, also a track by Michael Jackson. Kinda insane cuz when we’re at the airport for a trip one of mah buddies is humming the “tell em that it’s human nature” hook, and only through making this mashup am I able to search up Human Nature by Michael Jackson and show it to him. That catchy, huh! Michael just never fails to deliver man. Even with a more calming energy, singing with a softer, breathier tone, he still makes it absolutely brilliant. Tell em, Michael. Tell em, it’s just Human Nature. NO WONDER THRILLER IS NO1 ALBUM!!! (And yes, I sampled Human Nature on piano for instrumental additions too) Oh also, Human Nature got a music video recently. Check it out will ya? :) And of course, to add to the diversity, we have Be Her by Ella Langley! Now I didn’t know Be Her until the song randomly popped up in the trending page for music, and I’m searching for the 5th song to use when Be Her just sounded right with Matsuri and Human Nature in my musical mind. Somehow Be Her ended up switching solos on and off with Euphoria instead, oop That said, I unironically got into Ella Langley that way. The album Dandelions is… actually really good! A tentative touch into Country music for me, I’d say. With Ella’s Be Her being my first step, yet the “I just wanna be her” motif sampled often. I had fun, really. I had fun.
