Marcelo Garcia: Hooks vs Folding Pass
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo optimizes the trajectory of his Hook Sweep accompanied with a contingency: When lifting your opponent up off the mat, combined with an upper body control that emphasizes neutralizing their ability to post in defense, keep your knee from pointing towards the ground so that you opponent has difficulty smashing your hook during the sweep. [02:14] If you feel your knee forced inward when sweeping (into a Modified Leg Drag, Dope Mount, Smash Pass, Folding Pass, et al.) immediately pull your bottom leg in to help rescue your position by placing both Butterfly Hooks onto the same side. Immediately, lift your opponent up with both Butterfly Hooks towards the opposite direction of your original sweep, and gather up what your opponent leaves behind; typically, you will have access to an entry into Single Leg X or some X-Guard variant (Partial-X, Y-Guard, Deep-Half, Lagarto-X, Velvet-X, et al.).
