São Pedro da Aldeia is a wonderful hidden gem on the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Besides its incredible beaches, the city is famous for its historic colonial-era buildings. Like its famous neighbors, São Pedro da Aldeia is perfect for those seeking tranquility, contact with nature, and beautiful landscapes. It's located in the Lakes Region, near Cabo Frio and Búzios, and is easily accessible from Rio de Janeiro, making it much easier to explore the entire region. When choosing what to do there, don't miss the São Pedro Parish. It's a classic and one of the first Jesuit churches in Brazil, built between 1620 and 1783. Furthermore, the church still serves as the residence of the priests. It's definitely worth visiting, as the entire complex, including the parish cemetery and the old convent, is listed as a national heritage site by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage. Another must-see is the Araruama Lagoon, which stretches across several neighboring cities such as Saquarema, Iguaba Grande, Araruama, Cabo Frio, and Arraial do Cabo. You can relax and enjoy the beaches with calm, not-too-cold waters. São Pedro da Aldeia is that special place that blends history, nature, and tranquility.
