Haryanvi: Dialect, Language, or Cultural Identity? | Arjun Kadian | Usha Udaar | #ICF2026
Indraprastha Cultural Festival, 2026 - Inaugural Season Arjun Singh Kadian and linguist Dr Usha Udaar reveal the forgotten civilisational truth that Delhi was historically the capital of Haryana, and that Haryanvi is not a dialect of Hindi but a distinct language with its own grammar, phonology, and ancient roots pre-dating the Indus Valley Civilisation. Arjun Singh Kadian, author of Land of the Gods, exposes the colonial and post-independence decisions that stripped Haryana of its linguistic identity, while Dr Udaar's IIT Kanpur research demonstrates that Haryanvi has a fundamentally different grammatical algorithm from Hindi. They also discuss how language is a mirror of the culture and traditions of the people and Haryana needs to reclaim its language to preserve the heritage. Essential viewing for anyone rooted in Indian civilisational identity, language rights, and the untold history of North India. Key Points • Haryanvi is scientifically a separate language — not a dialect of Hindi • Haryana's civilisational roots from pre-Harappan Rakhigarhi • Post-1857 British policy forcibly merged Haryana into • Delhi's own identity as "capital of Haryana" is recorded in a 13th-century inscription About the Speaker: Arjun Singh Kadian is an academic and policy professional.
