What should your blood pressure really be at age 70? Is 140/90 acceptable because you are older—or should you still aim for below 130/80? The 2025 American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology guideline gives an overall treatment goal of below 130/80 mmHg for adults, with additional individual considerations. European guidance generally recommends a treated systolic target of 120–129 mmHg when well tolerated, while NICE in the United Kingdom uses a clinic target below 140/90 for adults under 80 and below 150/90 beginning at age 80, with clinical judgment for frailty and multiple health conditions.
