An Army Medic in South Vietnam, 1969-1970
Larry Butcher served as an Army medic in South Vietnam, 1969-1970. Raised in a strict Seventh-Day Adventist home, family members encouraged him to dodge the draft. But he felt obligated to serve. As a conscientious objector, he never used a weapon in combat. He shares memories from the war. After the discussion, soldiers he knew who died in combat are remembered. Mr. Butcher served with Delta Company, 2nd battalion, 14th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. His area of operations was III Corps, War Zone C: Dầu Tiếng, Tây Ninh, Gò Dầu Hạ, Trảng Bàng, Hố Bò woods, Boi loi woods, Củ Chi, Trung Lập, Fire Support Base (FSB) Devins, FSB Pershing, FSB Patton II, Patrol Base Hunsley, Katum Airfield, and The Mushroom. The foundation for the discussion is an essay Mr. Butcher contributed to "When We Came Home," edited by Jack McCabe. Posted as part of the "War & Life: Discussions with Veterans" project. https://warandlifediscussions.weebly.... Any veteran who served in any combat zone in any capacity is invited to contact Preston Jones: [email protected].
