Big Boy UP 4014 Departing the Philadelphia Area July 6/7, 2026

After spending the July 4th weekend in Philadelphia for America's 250 Celebration, the Union Pacific 4014 "Big Boy" departed Philadelphia on July 6th. In stark contrast to the 100+ degree temperatures during its arrival, a thunderstorm and torrential downpours marked its departure along the CSX Philadelphia Sub in Center City Philly. After spending the night in Abrams Yard, we join 4014 again on July 7th in Phoenixville, PA just past CP PHOENIX and the former Reading Company station on the now NS Harrisburg Line. Much to the crowds' surprise 4014 performed an unannounced brief whistle stop right in front of us (one of several that day).
