This Forgotten Pokemon Game Still Holds Up Perfectly | Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness (Part 1)

Finally playing Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness for the FIRST time and honestly… I can already see why so many people love this game. The darker atmosphere, Shadow Pokémon, and the whole Orre region bring back the nostalgia from when I experienced the prequel, Pokémon Colosseum. Right from the opening with Shadow Lugia attacking the S.S. Libra, this game immediately hooked me. What starts as a normal day at the Pokémon HQ Lab quickly turns into chaos after Prof. Krane gets kidnapped by Cipher, forcing me to start using the Snag Machine and tracking down Shadow Pokémon across Orre. As someone going through this game blind for the first time, I genuinely wasn’t expecting Pokémon XD to have this much personality and atmosphere. The music, animations, and overall vibe feel so unique compared to the mainline games. Going into this mostly blind has honestly made the experience even better because I never know what’s about to happen next. This game has such a different energy compared to the usual Pokémon formula, and I’m already really enjoying it. This series is basically me experiencing Pokémon XD naturally for the first time; no perfect super optimised strategies, just gameplay, reactions, exploration, and Shadow Pokémon chaos.
