We conducted an early review of the new GoPro product, MISSION 1, released on May 28th. The model we tested was the MISSION 1 PRO. Personally, this is my first GoPro since the HERO10. In recent years, the performance of cameras with gimbals has improved dramatically, and consequently, their market share in Japan has increased dramatically. Like us, many users who previously relied on GoPro action cameras for all their general-purpose shooting have come to realize that "GoPro is primarily an action camera, and what its original purpose is," remembering that such situations don't occur very often in real life. Of course, GoPro itself understands this. This time, they have announced a new GoPro with the "MISSION" to break through this difficult situation. Its name is not GoPro Hero14, but MISSION 1. Now, the test we conducted this time was a "performance comparison in nighttime shooting." We will make a comparison, but we will not draw any conclusions. The reason is that we haven't finalized the settings for the MISSION 1 PRO, and the reason we haven't is because "we can't finalize them." For most users, the most important thing isn't connecting various devices and exploring the possibilities and uses of the MISSION 1 with many experts, as seen in promotional videos. It's whether it's easy to use, and what happens when you use it easily. "How was the GoPro supposed to be used?" Understanding this reveals that there's nothing you can't do by meticulously adjusting settings, or that adding this or that will make the image better—these things are meaningless. As a manufacturer touting significant performance improvements with a new sensor, they naturally want to showcase the evolution of their product. However, the comparison here isn't with the GoPro HERO13, but with an unreasonable opponent. Of course, it's an incorrect comparison, but that's precisely what many users are looking for. As mentioned above, in both cases, the focus is on "how the image quality is in everyday use," without detailed settings. In the second half, I'll try taking snapshots with the "MISSION 1 PRO," equipped with a 1-inch sensor and approximately 50 million pixels, using my usual Tokyo Camera. Regarding this, I'd say, "While it doesn't have the same convenience as a familiar mirrorless SLR, it's clearly a different shooting experience, and it's surprisingly fun." The photos I took can be seen in the video, but these are RAW processed images, not unedited images, as usual. GoPros truly shine when used in their intended locations and situations.
