【昭和の日本】貴重な終戦直後の映像!焼け跡で生活し配給を受け取る人々 そして23年後の高度経済成長に浮かれる人々 1968年の終戦記念日に「何か」を問いかけるニュース映像
■From a News Report 23 years ago, Japan was starving. Back then, if you went out to buy supplies, the police would be waiting. In Kawasaki, there were concrete pipe housing units. People lived wherever there was shelter from the rain and wind. Prefabricated, modern housing was a luxury beyond reach. Back then, charcoal, rationed only occasionally, was a single bundle wrapped in a cloth. Coal ash by the railway tracks was our only source of fuel in winter. Rice, miso, fish—everything we ate was rationed. The special ration of sweet potatoes, too much to carry on our backs, brought a temporary sense of well-being. Ueno's Shinobazu Pond was turned into rice paddies, and any vacant land became fields, providing temporary relief from hunger. Sugar was rationed instead of rice. We struggled to find ways to eat it, especially making caramel candy. It was an era where we mended and wore anything. Mother's hand-me-downs became dresses, and that was our only form of fashion. Soon, fashionable long skirts began to grace the streets of Ginza. That was Japan 23 years ago. Time has changed, and now it's 1968. Who coined the term, Showa Genroku? Finally, they've acquired their own homes. Young people, unaware of the hardships of the postwar era, embrace go-go, underground culture, lewdness, and psychedelia. Their heads are already filled with countless commercials. The outlet for their frustrations? Pachinko, mahjong, bicycle racing, horse racing. Horses don't pay off, cars hit. 8,000 fatalities, a record high. The leisure boom is smooth sailing. And this year, August 15th has arrived again. With enough to eat and wear, are we forgetting something? ■About this channel This channel distributes footage of Japanese news programs produced in the 1950s-1970s.
