Собрала все старые свитера в доме и сразу же отрезала рукава. Теперь буду носить их на ногах
The cold season is the best time to surround yourself with comfort and warmth. And of course, the first helpers in this are soft, warm socks. Usually, we buy them in stores or knit them with needles, but there’s another way: you can sew socks by hand! This is a great way to give a second life to old things and make socks that fit perfectly—whether for yourself or for the whole family. We all know how quickly socks wear out. Instead of throwing away old pairs, you can turn them into a real pattern for new socks. Take an old sock, lay it out so that the heel is on top, and cut along the side edge. You will have two halves. At the point where the heel is located, make two small cuts, but not all the way through—this is necessary for the pattern to lay flat. Remove the top elastic band. When you unfold the fabric around the heel, you will notice that wedges form there. These wedges will help us sew a sock in a comfortable shape. That’s it, the pattern is ready. Now let's transfer it to the fabric. An old sweater, a soft top, a piece of fleece, or jersey will work perfectly. The more elastic the fabric, the more comfortable the finished socks will be. Once all the pieces are cut out, we start assembling the socks in reverse order. First, we sew the heel. To do this, we connect the wedges and sew them on both sides. It’s better to use a zigzag stitch—it stretches with the fabric, and the sock won’t constrict the foot. After this, you will have a rounded heel. The next step is to connect the two halves of the sock. We fold them right sides together and sew along the outline. Now we just need to finish the top. For this, you can sew on an elastic band: take a piece of knit tape or the same fabric you used to make the sock. That’s it! You have created a real warm sock, sewn by hand. It will fit perfectly since the pattern was made based on your foot. And if you repeat the process, you’ll have a whole pair, and then several pairs for the whole family. So don’t rush to throw away old things. Sometimes, it’s from them that the coziest and most useful ideas are born. Try sewing your first socks—and you’ll find that it’s easier than it seems. And most importantly, the result will delight and warm you on cold days.
