Where in the galaxy did we really come from? A study of the chemical history and movement of stars has allowed scientists to estimate the region of the Milky Way where the Sun may have formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago. Stars don't necessarily remain within the same galactic radius throughout their entire existence; they can move as a result of the gravitational forces present in the Milky Way.
