Hello everyone, I'm Thor. Today I'm going to talk about the astronomical phenomena in Taiwan in July and stargazing tips. Without further ado, let's begin! Okay, so there aren't any special celestial events in July this year. Even if you see news reports about the Aquarids or Capricornids meteor showers, you don't really need to go see them. Not only are there very few meteors, but they also occur around a full moon, so you'll barely see any. I'd recommend saving your time for the Perseids meteor shower on August 12th and 13th. It has a large number of meteors, and this year it won't be affected by the moon. Therefore, I suggest you schedule your meteor shower viewing for August 12th and 13th. Next, regarding the summer Milky Way, it's similar to June. You can see the Milky Way as soon as the sun sets. However, compared to June, the Milky Way will be at a higher angle and slightly more southeastern. If you look from the southeast towards the northeast, the entire summer Milky Way will be high in the sky. In the sky, it looks like an arch, which we call the Milky Way Arch, or the Summer Silver Arch. It's the most breathtaking moment of the summer Milky Way, and I highly recommend everyone to try to see it in July in a location with minimal light pollution to the east! As for locations, you can find green or blue areas on a light pollution map. Or, if you're too lazy to look it up yourself, here are a few recommendations: Hehuan Mountain, Xiaogawara Mountain, Daisetsuzan Visitor Center, Shitiping in Fengbin, Danongdafu in Guangfu, Wushibi in Changbin, Sky Mirror in Duli, Dagufan Secret Realm in Kanzan, Haifeizhishou in Nantian, Asahi Grassland in Mudan, and Youzi Lake in Lüdao. These are all excellent stargazing spots and perfect for photographing the Milky Way Arch. If you want to capture a beautiful Milky Way Arch this year, you're welcome to join my astrophotography course. I recently... I've updated the methods for shooting and post-processing the Milky Way arch, and you can even shoot it without an equatorial mount. For example, this photo was taken without an equatorial mount, yet it still surpasses many photos taken with one. Therefore, if you want to capture high-quality Milky Way images using the simplest methods, I highly recommend joining my astrophotography course! Next, if you stay later, around midnight, the Milky Way will be vertical. You can see it slightly west of south, at an angle of about 20 to 30 degrees. Find a spot with no obstructions or light pollution to the south for observation. If you stay even later, around 2 AM, you'll see the Milky Way setting in the west, roughly above the southwestern horizon. Again, just find a spot with no obstructions or light pollution to the southwest for observation. Finally, this photo represents July. I've compiled a list of times when the Milky Way is visible, and I've also taken into account the moon's influence. You can save this chart. Simply put, if you want to see the Milky Way completely unaffected by moonlight, choose to observe between July 11th and 17th. On other dates, the Milky Way will be affected by moonlight to varying degrees, with the effect being greater closer to the full moon. Please keep this in mind. Okay, that's all for this episode!
