The altered scale is one of the most used scales in jazz guitar plaing. In this guitar lesson I'll do an in depth analysis of the altered scale. Since it is a mode of the melodic minor scale, we'll also look into this relationship. I'll show you how to construct the altered scale, what tensions / alterations we get from it and what altered chords we can biuld upon it. I'll also show you WHEN to alter a dominant chord. I show you a trick you can do directly on your guitar, that will help you determine, if you have to alter the dominant chord and apply the altered scale for soloing or not. Finally I'll show you how to quickly create tension by using some of the arpeggios of the melodic minor scale. We'll dive deeper into the distincive arpeggios of the altered scale. By watching my video tutorial you'll understand the mechanics of the altered scale theory and therefore be able to play better jazz solos. Next week I'll teach you how to play the altered scale on guitar. You can already download the PDF I've made, including all the 5 altered scale patterns on guitar. It also includes ALL the altered scale arpeggios. That means you'll have a nice compedium about the altered scale at hand with 40 scale and arpeggio diagrams.
