In this video, I'll show you how to build your own WMBUS water meter reading module, integrate it with Home Assistant, and add it to the Energy panel. The result will be complete water consumption monitoring, anomaly alerts, and water expense control in a single dashboard. WHAT I'LL SHOW IN THE VIDEO: Hardware Construction - I present the connection diagram between the CC1101 and the ESP32 (SPI), demonstrate soldering, and assembly in the enclosure. I explain the function of each pin and verify the power supply. ESPHome Installation - I add the ESPHome as an add-on in Home Assistant, prepare the YAML configuration, and upload the firmware to the ESP32 via USB. Pairing with the Meter - The water meter will automatically detect itself in Home Assistant. I'll show you how to add a new sensor and test it in Developer Tools. Integration in the Energy panel - I add a water sensor to the Energy panel in Home Assistant, set tariffs per m³, and display water consumption graphs (daily, weekly, monthly). FREQUENTLY QUESTIONS: Does this work with any water meter? Almost any - Apator, Techem, Kamstrup meters. The meter must transmit on 868 MHz. Will the WMBUS signal reach through walls? Yes, the 868 MHz RF signal penetrates obstacles well. If problems arise, you can install an antenna amplifier. Do I need access to the meter? No. The meter transmits itself; you just listen to the signal. Can I integrate multiple sensors? Yes. One ESP32 + CC1101 listens to all WMBUS devices (gas, electricity, water).
