She promotes calligraphy aesthetics on both sides of the Taiwan Strait with a modern approach and vivid, conversational explanations. Born in 1939, my grandmother only began learning calligraphy at the age of 38 (studying under the renowned master Huang Jinling, a third-generation disciple of Cao Rong, a national treasure of Taiwan). She experienced a breakthrough immediately and has continued practicing calligraphy for nearly half a century. She is proficient in regular, clerical, seal, running, and cursive scripts, and remains articulate and energetic to this day. She balances teaching and calligraphy practice, firmly believing that learning calligraphy is much easier and simpler than you might imagine once you grasp the essentials. Originally reluctant to be on camera, the grandmother's enthusiasm ignited at the thought of allowing more "young people" to experience the beauty of calligraphy. Her seemingly impromptu, fluent (though tinged with Taiwanese Mandarin) solo lectures are actually the culmination of her painstaking efforts, compiling the questions and concerns of her students for each topic.
