Jean-Louis Roux Part One

Jean-Louis Roux (1923-2013) began acting with Père Emile Legault and Les Compagnons de St Laurent, which led him to abandon his medical studies and go to Paris to study acting. In 1951 he co-founded Le Théâtre du Nouveau Monde with Jean Gascon; he directed approximately 40 productions there, and served as its secretary general (1953-63) and artistic director (1966-81). He was part of the celebrated “French invasion” at Stratford in 1956, and maintained an active career in radio and television including a leading role in La Famille Plouffe. Later he was director general of the National Theatre School, chair of the Canada Council, and a member of the Canadian Senate. Interviewer: J.D. Gravenor
