Hilda (Jean Alexander) suspects Stan (Bernard Youens) is cheating due to his late nights and new attire. Irma (Sandra Gough) questions George Dickinson's (Stan Jay) rudeness. Annie (Doris Speed) notices Lucille's (Jennifer Moss) change in behaviour regarding rehearsals and later discovers they are at the boys' school. Florrie (Betty Alberge) receives a postcard from Norman (Glyn Owen) who sends his regards to Elsie (Pat Phoenix). Len (Peter Adamson) tells Jack (Arthur Leslie) the pipe in the cellar will have to be replaced with a new one. Stan's lateness and a box of chocolates lead to a confrontation with Hilda. Elsie quits Miami Modes after a row with Mrs. Dumbarton (Diana Coupland). Albert (Jack Howarth) complains about the state pension increase. Stan gives Albert a sweater. Dot (Joan Francis) advises Elsie to apologise but Elsie resigns. Hilda storms into the Rovers and serves Stan his tea in front of his stunned friends. She hints that he’s not the only one who can play away.
