Finnish deaf rapper Signmark – the global star who proved his doubters wrong

[In partnership with: Leisure and Cultural Services Department] The Finnish deaf rapper Signmark, whose piercing, uplifting songs transcend language barriers, will perform his ‘Impossible Is My Thing’ concert in November as part of Hong Kong’s World Cultures Festival: The Nordics. The 41-year-old star, who was born deaf and whose real name is Marko Vuoriheimo, says he always had a dream to be an artist, but nobody believed in him. “Everybody was saying, ‘You're a deaf man … you will not be able to do this’,” he says. “That felt really bad. So, I decided I was going to show everybody that I can do this’.” Since then the acclaimed performer has released numerous albums at played more than 1,000 concerts in Europe, the United States and Asia.
