A pápaszemes 210-es sorozat után a Mercedesnek komoly erőfeszítéseket kellett tennie, hogy a következő E-osztály renoméját visszaállítsa. A W211-el ez nagyrészt sikerült is, melynek kombi változata, az S211 pedig kiemelkedően népszerű lett a hosszútávra sok cuccal utazók, családok körében is - a CDI motorokkal. Azonban Marciéknál már több, mint nyolc éve egy 3.5 literes, V6-os szívó benzin motoros példány van, nem akármilyen állapotban, egy generációra már átörökítve a családon belül.
