A Trip to Wales with RickTheSpud + Caterham 310R | Filmed in 4K on GoPro Hero 10
So i finally purchased my first Go Pro - the newly released Hero 10 (YouTube resolution may default to a lower setting than 4K, please raise in settings if so - and watch on a 4K screen if possible). The first opportunity to take this camera for a Test Drive was on a trip to Wales with RickTheSpud who was filming content for his channel featuring the Caterham Cars (press office) 310R. Please head over and check out that film and all of his other Caterham coverage @RickTheSpud - including me driving the Caterham 420R coming down a Portugal mountain. This trip to Wales was the perfect chance to get used to the camera's features, see the quality of footage and also get some much needed practice in flying my drone - a DJI Mavic Mini. The video is intended as a technical demonstration of the ability of the Hero10 + Mavic Mini and to help me learn what works well for the future. My verdict on my first GoPro? Not totally overwhelmed i'd say. Footage quality is on point and hard to fault. Everything else rates only average for me. Battery life of only 30-40 minute @40K/60FPS took me by surprise - how long have they had to perfect these? I'd always assumed their strange blocky shape was due to a big battery - after all they're not exactly aerodynamic. For filming driving footage i'd not feel comfortable sticking this on the outside of a car - it wouldn't be long before a stone chip would break either the front facing screen or the lens. Next, the low light performance is pitiful. Sound not too great either, though I've know got an external microphone which hopefully will improve this. Also, when mounted there's too much movement from left to right - the arms which drop down seem to have a few milimetres of play in them. And then there's the mobile app - I'm shocked how poor this is. It can't get stream footage to the mobile whilst recording due to some copyright infringement, but also you're lucky to get a live feed when not recording - something i find very useful for lining up the camera angle prior to recording. I just can't believe the competition have been so slow to catchup with and better what GoPro offer. In fact most manufacturers have been exiting this market recently. Hopefully DJI come along with something soon which smashes it out of the park - and which is backwardly compatible with all the GoPro mounts and accessories! Thanks as always for watching, for those hoping for something more high octane apologies for the more cinematic content here. High octane stuff to follow once the weather improves in Spring 2022 ...
