But when it comes from a North Sea island, you can consider yourself truly fortunate – and should definitely seize the opportunity. The islands are known for their excellent small game populations. This is primarily because there are generally no fur-bearing predators. As a result, consistently high bag numbers of hare, rabbit, pheasant, and other game birds can be expected. In November 2024, Rouven takes the ferry to Langeoog – the third largest of the East Frisian Islands. Here, he is invited with his film camera to a traditional hunt with a history spanning over a century and accompanies the local hunters and their guests for two days during numerous drives. Highlights of the hunt, besides the impressive work of the hounds and the swift woodcock, are the drives through the dunes with a view of the North Sea. Here, Rouven gets to swap his camera for a shotgun and hunt waterfowl himself. The hunt culminates in a festive meal with all the trimmings – a truly special hunting experience.
