Found a Hidden Dim Sum Spot Deep in San Leandro
Hidden dim sum gems in the Bay Area? We might have found another one. Today we took the food eats to the streets in San Leandro to check out Pearl Bay Tea House, a dim sum spot that honestly flew completely under my radar until a subscriber recommended it. I thought I had already been to all the dim sum spots around the East Bay, but this place surprised me. For this visit, we ordered the pan fried fish cake, ginger onion beef tripe, Portuguese tart, and the durian pastry puff. The pan fried fish cake had a nice texture and flavor, the Portuguese tart was flaky and sweet, and the durian pastry puff was definitely one of the more unique bites of the day. The ginger onion beef tripe was probably my least favorite at first, but the more I ate it, the more I started getting used to the flavor and texture. I just wish they included some chili sauce or soy sauce in the bag because that would have taken some of these dishes to another level. This place was absolutely packed during brunch/lunch hours, which tells me locals already know what’s up. Always a good sign when a Chinese dim sum restaurant is full of families and big tables on the weekend. Definitely feels like one of those lowkey East Bay hidden gems worth checking out if you love Cantonese food, dim sum, Hong Kong style eats, and discovering new spots around the Bay Area. Would I come back? Absolutely. There’s still a lot more on the menu I want to try. I hope you enjoyed the video!
