Both games make rockets, orbital flight and landings approachable, but their ultimate goals begin to separate from there. In 9.8, spaceflight feeds into contracts, progression, an economy, persistent infrastructure, different planetary environments and an early co-op multiplayer prototype. Reaching orbit is not the end goal. It is the foundation for building an entire space program. In this video, I take the comparison seriously: where the similarities come from, how the games approach flight differently, and what missions, worlds, stations, colonies and multiplayer add to 9.8. 9.8 is still in development. Most of the footage shown is an early prototype, and its visuals, systems and balancing may change.
