The Outsiders / Tourette Syndrome / Andreas Tourette syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by motor and vocal tics. In other words, involuntary, sudden movements or sounds that a person cannot control. According to research, it affects about 0.4% to 1% of the population. It appears 3 to 4 times more often in boys than in girls and usually begins in childhood. Tourette’s does not mean that someone uncontrollably shouts swear words, as movies often portray. That happens only in a small percentage of people. Most people with Tourette’s live completely normal lives. They work, build families, and have friends. But they grow up in a world that often does not understand what they are going through. Δηλαδή από ακούσιες, ξαφνικές κινήσεις ή ήχους που ο άνθρωπος δεν μπορεί να ελέγξει. Σύμφωνα με τις έρευνες, εμφανίζεται περίπου στο 0,4% έως 1% του πληθυσμού και εμφανίζεται 3 έως 4 φορές συχνότερα στα αγόρια από ό,τι στα κορίτσια, και συνήθως ξεκινά στην παιδική ηλικία. Το Τουρέτ δεν σημαίνει ότι κάποιος βρίζει ανεξέλεγκτα, όπως δείχνουν πολλές φορές οι ταινίες. Αυτό συμβαίνει μόνο σε ένα μικρό ποσοστό ανθρώπων. Οι περισσότεροι ζουν μια απολύτως φυσιολογική ζωή. Δουλεύουν, κάνουν οικογένεια, έχουν φίλους. Αλλά μεγαλώνουν σε έναν κόσμο που συχνά δεν καταλαβαίνει τι τους συμβαίνει.
